Open House and Guest Speakers

We have our open houses usually on the first Thursday of every other month. For every open house we bring in music industry professionals to tell their story and to give advice to students. Our open houses are where our current (and potential) students meet and socialize with music industry professionals and other students in a casual environment. Many of our best students secure high profile externships by attending our open houses.

Unsigned Artist Showcase

The Unsigned Artist Competition is an annual event where the best "unsigned" artists in the country compete to win hundreds of studio hours (and other prizes like working with Tim Palmer).
Submissions for the competition start in February and we wrap up the event in May with a showcase of the top 4 artists at Stubb's.
Our students roadie, mix and record the live event, and later when the contest winners come to Stinson Studios, the students assist in the recording, mixing and mastering of the finished productions.

Singer Songwriter Showcase

The Singer Songwriter Competition is an annual event where the best undiscovered singer/songwriters in the country compete to win hundreds of studio hours (and other prizes like a personal audition for The Voice).
Submissions for the competition start in September and we wrap up the event in December with a showcase of the top 4 artists at Mohawk.
Our students roadie, mix and record the live event, and when the winners come to Stinson Studios, the students assist in the recording, mixing and mastering of the finished productions.

Studio Concert Series

Every other month we put on a private, "unplugged" live concert here at the studio with 30 patron audience members. The show is video taped and recorded by TRCoA students and staff. This event gives the students a real, high pressure experience of a professional, live broadcast style recording.
Since TRCoA takes none of the proceeds, the event provides a free live video and audio recording as well as an intimate fund-raising opportunity for the artists.

Studio Producer Series

With TRCoA running out of the same facilities as Stinson Recording Studios, there are many quality and high profile sessions on which the students get the opportunity to assist. These Stinson Studios sessions however are paid clients and sometimes students have limited access.
That is why about once every two months we do the Studio Producer Series and hire a name producer to record a hand picked artist here at the studio. This allows our students to have a guaranteed "front row seat" to see and interact with a named music producer in action.
